Outreach in the Classroom

We hope you had fun with Greek Vases!

These activities were all planned and prepared by the students of the Masterpieces of Greek and Roman Art course, held at Rutgers University during the Spring semester 2020.

This course applied PBL or “Problem Based Learning,” a pedagogical methodology that encourages students to complete projects that simulate real-world situations. PBL encourages active learning and critical thinking, and its use has proven to be particularly effective in several fields, including medicine and social sciences.

For Masterpieces of Greek and Roman Art, the students were asked to prepare educational materials about Ancient Greece for k-6 children, and present it at the Rutgers Day Fair. After the fair was cancelled because of the pandemic, the students turned their projects into digital ones and collected them on this website.

Spring 2020 was the pilot semester of an ongoing outreach project. The goal of this project is to foster interest about antiquity and Classics among New Jersey K-12 students, especially in underserved communities, while enhancing students’ communication, research, and critical thinking skills.
